Day 22: favorite city to dance in

Baltimore.

My one night out dancing at the Baltimore Strut was memorable, to say the least. As per the scene there I think that a friend and one of my companions out that night summed up the feelings that Charm City inspires with the phrase:

Still debating if I am afraid how much I love them, or love how much I am afraid of them.

They enticed a small handful of Central Pennsylvania dancers down for the evening by featuring The Boilermaker Jazz Band. Having been exposed to the spirited dancers of this scene on a few out-of-town occasions, I could not help but give in to the temptation to find out what they would be like when at home. It was an experience unlike any other!

The fact that the dance venue was literally on the wrong side of the tracks should have provided the perfect foreshadowing for the evening to come. Yet what we found while there reminded me much more of the earthy, visceral experience of a barn dance that was common in my country up-bringing. The place was a little dirty, the dance floor took up most of the available space and people of varying degrees of sartorial, social & dance skill abounded. In short, I felt right at home.

Just the thought that a regular Friday night in Baltimore could feature such an experience makes me like the place more than is proper or decent!
